Professional football has been a national obsession weaved into the DNA of millions of people up and down the country who either play or simply watch and enjoy this national sport. It has become a multi-billion-pound industry and the top players are being sought out at every level from a Sunday morning parks league game to top professional academies across the country and Europe. So what does it take to be spotted and how do you make sure that when you are watched that you stand out and get your chance to be the next great talent?

To address this issue, we will review the player characteristics that professional recruitment staff at clubs up and down the country are looking for. Chris is a qualified talent identification recruitment staff member at the Academy of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. He has 18 years experience in this industry. He qualified as a physical education teacher in 1987. He went on to play and coach football up to Conference level in a 36-year career before moving into recruitment at Birmingham City and then Southampton FC prior to his latest position. During this time he has observed at close quarters some of the countries brightest talents,witnessing their development physically, technically and socially. He does however, have strong views on the psychological profile of today's top performers and will explain some of his viewa on the psychological profile of today's top performers and will explain some of his views and offer advice to those in attendance as to what it takes to be a professional footballer.
