I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the energy, enjoyment and competitive spirit between the Houses throughout the week. Matches have been played with determination and skill, but also with the camaraderie and encouragement that make House events such a special part of school life.
A particularly significant moment came with the Sixth Form House Football final, played this year for the George Baldock Cup. The trophy has been introduced in memory of George Baldock, an Old Latin whose career took him from MK Dons. to Oxford United F.C., and later to Sheffield United where he made more than 200 appearances and helped the club secure promotion to the Premier League. Through his family’s heritage he also represented the Greece national football team. George was widely admired for his professionalism, humility and commitment - qualities we hope this competition will honour for years to come.
The final itself was a fitting occasion. After a closely contested match between Barton and Stratton, the game was decided on penalties, with Barton holding their nerve to lift the inaugural George Baldock Cup. It was a particularly moving moment to see the trophy presented by Jacquie Baldock, George’s mother and a former Deputy Headteacher of the Royal Latin School - a powerful reminder of the enduring connection between past and present members of the Royal Latin community.
