Old Latins, as well as former parents and supporters of the school and special guest Dame Mary Archer came together to celebrate this significant anniversary, and to reflect on the postitve impact that this new facility has had on students, staff and the community over the last decade.
Headteacher Ian Chislett and current science staff and students spoke to the assembled audience about how the 12-laboratory Discovery Centre has transformed their experience of teaching and learing at the school, compared to the experience of the dated and inadequate number of 1960s labs pre-2015/16. Dame Mary Archer then shared the story of her career in science, which started in the 'Discovery Room' in her first school. Amongst many impressive projects and committees with whom Dame Mary is currently involved, she is Chair of the Salters' Institute and Chancellor of the University of Buckingham.
The completed go-kart from the Year 9 'STEM On Track' karting project - 'Latin Velocity' was also on display for visitors to see.
The event was a great opportunity for old friends and colleagues to be reunited ten years on, and to reflect on how together a community of people passionate about supporting the Royal Latin can make a real difference.
