Tim grew up in Wantage, and went on to study English at Oxford University before beginning his teaching career. He taught in Jedburgh (Scotland), at Denbigh (Milton Keynes), and at the Royal Latin School. Tim inspired many students over the years with his deep love of words, books, and ideas. He was also a lifelong lover of cricket, films, art, and music.

Tim was a well-known figure around Stony Stratford. He was a regular fixture at The Vaults Bar (or ‘The Office’ as he called it). He could often be found doing the cryptic crossword with a pint of real ale, setting the world to rights.

An informal gathering to remember Tim was held on 9th August at the Stables Bar in Stony Stratford. By all accounts the event was well attended, and included Tim's former RLS colleagues and friends, Andy Cooper and Martin Boileau.
