On 21st February we were delighted to welcome back into school Old Latin Barnard Garbe (Class of 1971) for the official 'unveiling' , in front of an assembled group of students and staff, of a bas-relief sculpture donated by Bernard for display in the Discovery Centre. This bas-relief, by sculptor Lina Carr (Bernard’s sister), depicts an early 19th-century resuscitation technique - the ‘trotting horse method’, which saved the lives of many ‘drowned’ canal barge people in the 19th century.
Lina Carr (née Garbe) studied sculpture at the Amersham School of Art and went on to work in London. This sculpture has been modelled in wax, moulded and recast in bronze resin.
Bernard Garbe is the Chairperson of Vitalograph. Founded in 1963, and based in Maids Moreton, Vitalograph manufactures and supplies respiratory medical devices which aid the detection, diagnosis and management of respiratory conditions.
We've very grateful to both Lina and Bernard for their support of the school.
